Sea Kind Marine Actives Bath and Body Products Review

Sea Kind Marine Actives Bath and Body Products Review

Beauty Product Review

For this product review I tried Sea Kind Marine Actives Bath and Body Products.

I first heard of Sea Kind brand at the 2013 Natural Products Expo West. I was an instant fan of Sea Kind, since they are commitment to protecting the ocean.

Sea Kind brand is dedicated to marine conservation and makes their bath and body products with sustainably harvested Marine Actives.

"Sea Kind gives back 2% of its revenue in appreciation and kindness for what the Sea gives to us. We believe that giving back should be a universal cost of doing business.

Each month 2% of all Sea Kind revenue, without regard to profits, is given to sea research, conservation and educational organizations."

Sea Kind embodies ethical consumerism, in promoting individual health, social equity and global responsibility.

The kind people at Sea Kind sent me Ocean Breeze scented Sea Glow Body Wash, Bath Salts, and Body Lotion. They also provided a natural sea sponge and a canvas tote bag. The Sea Kind line of bath and body products also comes in Lavender or Sea Mist scent.

In addition to bath and body products, Sea Kind offers a line of facial cleansing products and sunscreen.

An Alternative to

Sea Kind bath and body products, which are made from naturally derived ingredients, are an alternative to bath and body products containing parabens and synthetic fragrances.

EWG's Skin Deep Cosmetics Database explains that parabens "are estrogen-mimicking preservatives used widely in cosmetics," which "may disrupt the endocrine system and cause reproductive and developmental disorders."[1. Top Tips for Safer Products, EWG's Skin Deep Cosmetics Database, http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/top-tips-for-safer-products/, viewed July 23, 2014]  The undisclosed mixture of chemicals in synthetic fragrances are often ones that cause allergic reactions and hormone disruption.[2. FAQ, EWG's Skin Deep Cosmetics Database, http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/faq/, viewed August 1, 2014] (However, natural essential oils are not necessarily safe, and very little is know about any potentially harmful effects.)

Sea Kind products are free from parabens and synthetic fragrances.

Packaging

Sea Kind Tote Bag, Natural Sea Sponge, and Marine Actives Bath and Body Products

Sea Kind Tote Bag, Natural Sea Sponge, and Marine Actives Bath and Body Products

The Sea Kind body wash, bath salts, and body lotion are all packaged in dark blue recyclable PETE bottles. The natural sea sponge came in a mesh fabric bag. Sea Kind strives to use locally sourced packaging with minimal environmental impact, but they avoid glass when they are worried about it breaking.

I like the tinted blue color of the containers. They are large sizes, which means you are using less packaging in the long run (16 fl oz for the body wash and lotion, and 25 oz by wt for the sea salt).

My baby boy, Kaisho, whose name means "soaring over the sea", enjoyed playing with the jar of bath salts, like a big rattle. And he thought the natural sea sponge had a very interesting texture.

We have been using the tote bag as our beach bag, packed with our beach towels, swim suits, and sunscreen. It's a very handy reusable bag!

Promises

"Sea Kind products include a unique blend of organic, sustainable sea plants from the amazing Bay of Fundy. Sea plants rejuvenate, hydrate, detoxify and regenerate our skin."

Directions

Sea Kind Sea Glow Wash

Pump on to sea sponge, bath cloth or hand. Lather lavishly. Rinse.

Sea Kind Bath Salts

Place 3 oz. (1/2 cup measure) into bath. Dissolve with hot water. Finish filling with water at temperature desired. Soak, relax and enjoy.

Sea Kind Body Lotion

Apply daily for naturally smooth skin.

Observations

The Sea Kind bath and body products are free from any artificial dyes, so they are clear rather than colored. The Ocean Breeze scent is a good neutral scent, which works well for either men or women.

Sea Kind Sea Glow Wash

The Sea Glow Wash lathers well with the exfoliating natural sea sponge. I ran out of natural liquid hand soap, and discovered that the Sea Glow Wash also makes an excellent hand soap. It can be dispensed in a small portion for washing hands, or in a larger portion, for using in the bath or shower.

Sea Kind Bath Salts

The Sea Kind Bath Salts have a nice light scent and made my skin feel very soft, even after just one bath. These salts are a relaxing treat to use.

Sea Kind Body Lotion

The Sea Kind Body Lotion was my least favorite to use, but only because I prefer unscented body lotions. For me, even a light scent bothers me eventually.

Rating 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Natural Ingredients: Sea Kind Marine Actives bath and body products earn only half a star for containing natural ingredients, since most of the ingredients are "naturally derived," rather than left in their naturally occurring states. The bath salts are the most natural of the three, containing only sea salt and essential oils.

Packaging: Sea Kind does make an effort to use environmentally friendly packaging. However, the containers are made from recyclable plastic, but not recycled plastic or a natural material. To be consistent with other reviews, the plastic PETE containers only earn half a star.

Effectiveness: Sea Kind bath and body products earn a full star for effectively cleansing, softening, and moisturizing.

Value for your money: They earn another star for being a good value for your money. The MSRP for the body wash or lotion is $19.95 for 16 fl oz. The MSRP for the bath salts is $15.95 for 25 oz by wt. These are reasonable prices for the large size of the bottles.

A pleasure to use: Sea Kind bath and body products earn a final star for being a pleasure to use. I especially enjoyed the bath salts! After my bath, my skin felt super smooth! It was nice taking a little time out to relax and soak. I think I will make it a weekly tradition to have a "spa day" at home and enjoy pampering myself with some natural beauty products. You should too!

Overall: Sea Kind bath and body products earn 4 out of 5 stars. You can nourish your skin with their marine ingredients, while helping conserve the sea at the same time! How cool is that?
