This past weekend, March 7-10, over 60,000 people attended the Natural Products Expo West 2013 in Anaheim, California.[1. Natural Products Expo West Scores Record Attendance, Exhibitors, Trade Show News Network, http://www.tsnn.com/news-blogs/natural-products-expo-west-scores-record-attendance-exhibitors] Over 2,000 exhibitors showed their latest natural and organic products.
The majority of the halls at the Anaheim Convention Center were filled with food, drinks, and nutritional supplements. But I focused on a particular segment of the natural products industry- natural beauty products. There were many forward-thinking natural personal care products exhibited, especially in the NEXT pavilion, which featured the next generation of natural products.
Natural Beauty Products Stars
Over the coming weeks I will be sharing with you reviews of skin care products and makeup from many of the brands that participated in the Expo. To kick it off, I would like to highlight some of the natural beauty products stars of the Natural Products Expo West 2013. Right away these brands and products caught my attention. Here is a sneak peak of four of the brands that I will be reviewing soon.
Chandler Farm: Palm Oil Free Natural Body Care Products
All of the body care products from Chandler Farm are 100% palm oil free. Vast reaches of rain forests in Indonesia and Malaysia have been cleared to plant oil palms and harvest palm oil. This destruction of habitat is pushing the wild Orangutan to the brink of extinction. Chandler Farm is using their line of palm oil free products to bring attention to this pressing issue.
After seeing wild Orangutans in Borneo and nearby hillsides cleared for palm oil plantations, I vowed to do my best to avoid purchasing products containing palm oil. Palm oil is prevalent in many personal care items and also junk foods. When I see palm oil on the ingredients list I skip the product and look for an alternative. With Chandler Farm, I know the products are Orangutan-safe, without having to check the label.
Each of the Chandler Farm products is named after an actual Orangutan and a portion of their profits benefit Orangutan and rainforest conservation.
I will be trying out Indah’s Fragrance Free Hand Creme and Markisa’s Natural Soothing Bar Soap with honey and oatmeal extracts.
Sea Kind: Products Containing Sea Plants that Give Back to the Sea
Sea Kind will release a full line of skin care products in Summer 2013. Their products incorporate sustainably harvested sea plants with beneficial properties for our skin. Sea Kind will donate 2% of their revenue to Sea conservation and research organizations, giving back kindness to the sea. They also hope to raise awareness that the products we use in the shower wash down the drain and impact the sea.
The Sea Kind line will include Sea Glow Wash, Organic Sea Plant Body Wash, Body Lotion Organic Sea Plant Moisturizer, Sea-Foam Face Wash, Sea-Fresh Toner, Intense Sea Serum with Hyanify, Day Cream Protection Moisturizer, Night Rejuvenating Cream, Sun Defense Face Protection, and Ultimate Lip Protection Balm.
SoapBox Soap: Buy One and Give One to a Child in Need
David Simnick, CEO and Co-Founder of SoapBox Soaps, decided to change the world by starting a soap company. While working on water projects he noticed that even once children in developing countries had access to water, many still did not have soap for washing their hands. More than 3,000 children’s lives could be saved every day with something as simple as a bar of soap and clean water, so SoapBox donates one bar of soap for every bar you buy.[2. Our Movement, SoapBox Soaps, https://www.soapboxsoaps.com/our-movement/]
It’s inspiring to see young people doing something to change the world. I am a fan of the new movement, where not only not-for-profit organizations, but also for-profit businesses are setting out to make positive changes in the world.
Not only do SoapBox Soaps help those in need, they are also 100% natural, palm oil free, cruelty free, vegan, gluten free, and made in the USA.
I will be trying out their fragrant cinnamon exfoliating soap and spearmint stimulating soap.
Aura Cacia: Nighttime Baobab Facial Oil Serum
Aura Cacia is a brand that I am already familiar with, since I have been using their organic Argan oil as a natural face moisturizer for the past couple months. I love how the Aura Cacia organic rejuvenating Argan oil moisturizes my face.
Aura Cacia just released a new line of organic facial serums. There are four facial oil serums available: Daytime Argan, Deep Rosehip, Nighttime Baobab, and Soothing Tamanu. I tried a bit of the Aura Cacia Nighttime Baobab Oil, which is scented with Vanilla & Vetiver, and was instantly in love! I cannot wait to start using this serum on my face.

I look forward to trying these natural beauty products and letting you know how they work. Which ones are you most excited about?
